Earthquake rocks Japan killing 3 and injuring hundreds

A strong earthquake has rocked Japan, killing at least three people.

The magnitude-6.1 earthquake hit the Osaka area around 8 a.m. local time on Monday, shaking buildings and causing other significant damage.

Three people have died and hundreds other have been reported as injured.

According to the Associated Press, two men in their 80s died, while the other fatality was a nine-year-old girl who was hit by a falling concrete wall at her school.

Flights in and out of Osaka have been cancelled, while traffic and commuter trains are at a standstill as well.

By Monday evening, a lot of subway and bullet train service had resumed operation, but were crowded with backed up passengers.

Monday’s earthquake came on the heels on a number of small tremors that have occured near Tokyo over the last few weeks.
