The British Parliament has voted against Prime Minister Theresa May’s Brexit deal by a huge majority.
The leader of the opposition has already tabled a no confidence vote in the prime minister in an attempt to force a general election.
May negotiated the deal to leave the European Union in November 2018, but when it became obvious it would not be backed by MPs in December, she delayed the vote until today.
Now, it has been decisively rejected by 432 votes to 202, with many of May’s own Conservative MPs voting against it.
She had earlier told Parliament that if her deal was rejected, MPs would be "letting the British people down."
Opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn, however, said the prime minister’s deal represented a "reckless leap in the dark" for Britain.
One of the primary concerns MPs have about the deal is that it could theoretically result in Northern Ireland being treated differently from the rest of the U.K.
The vote was of such importance that the House of Commons could barely accommodate all the MPs who turned up to vote, including one MP who delayed her caesarean section to cast a ballot.
