Alberta RCMP seize over 300 pounds of pot from single vehicle

A routine police traffic stop led to a massive marijuana seizure in Banff last month.

According to Alberta RCMP, approximately 326 pounds of cannabis was seized from a vehicle being driven by a lone occupant.

While searching the vehicle police also discovered 10 pounds of psilocybin mushrooms, 4.5 pounds of shatter, two pounds of edibles, and $11,000 in Canadian cash.

Needless to say, over 300 pounds of cannabis is slightly more than the permitted 30 grams of cannabis people can legally carry in the province.

“We remind Albertans that cannabis trafficking is illegal. The recent legalization of cannabis means that there are legal avenues to obtain and consume cannabis,” said Cpl. Kyle Maetche, Alberta RCMP Traffic Services, in the release.

“I am very proud of the great teamwork and determination that our members display across the province to keep Albertans safe.”

The release also states that the amount of cannabis seized was enough to make over 440,000 average-sized joints and that the mushrooms found were equal to 9,000 doses.
